The little theatre Piccolo Teatro degli Instabili, standing in the heart of Assisi’s historic centre, was created in 2002 by the entrepreneur from Assisi, Carlo Angeletti, a well-known man in town, always busy championing and adding value to Assisi.
He originally wanted to find suitable spaces to build a ballet school, but he changed his mind after seeing the rooms of the old theatre in the Monastery of San Giacomo. Convinced of the extraordinary potential that abandoned place appeared to have, he decided to reconstruct the entire venue, from the furnishings to the stage and technical systems. Already written above the proscenium were the words of the saying “Dilettando insegna” [Entertainment teaches], as though it indicates a path, a road to follow.
Thus, the Piccolo Teatro degli Instabili was brought back to life with a new look and on 12 December 2002 opened its doors to the public. From then on, performances at the theatre have been unstoppable. Some of the greatest actors have stepped on to its stage, from Giorgio Albertazzi to Luigi Lo Cascio and many others.
Since 2004, the Cultural Association Gli Instabili has not only curated the season of prose and music, it has also turned the theatre into a lively, well-attended place that offers drama courses, debates, conferences and film screenings.
