UNTO is the event dedicated to extra virgin olive oil that promotes the food and wine and the artistic and cultural heritage of the town of Assisi and the Umbrian territory with guided tours, tastings and outdoor activities.
UNTO (UNESCO, Nature, Territory, Oil) is the event dedicated to newly pressed extra virgin olive oil which, since 2012, has been held in Assisi and in the surrounding territory.
The event has become part of the national celebrations Frantoi Aperti (Open Oil Mills) that each year attracts thousands of aficionados to Umbria and sightseers from all over the world.
From the end of October and throughout November, Assisi opens its doors to its citizens and tourists with a series of initiatives dedicated to the so-called green gold and aims to champion the town’s food and wine and artistic and cultural heritage.
Guided tours to the UNESCO sites, to the great Basilicas and the Rocca Maggiore, and to the museums enrich the programme of cultural and gastronomic events.
There are trips for nature lovers to get to know the surrounding territory, such as the Mount Subasio Regional Park, and trekking to discover the mediaeval castles.
There are also many initiatives for young children, with educational workshops and outdoor activities.
Clearly not to be missed are the oil tastings with experts in the sector and guided tours of the oil mills, where you can experience the emotion of live pressing and taste the new oil on some bruschetta.
There is also an exhibition and market that propose not only the excellent products of oil producers in Assisi and in Umbria, but also the products of our countryside, the result of the knowledgeable work of the local farms, whose skill and passion continue the ancient crafts with a close eye on the future and innovation.
