Fratello Cibo is an event that combines themes of religion and food by talking about global stories and sentiments in an intercultural dialogue of tastings.
Fratello Cibo is an event that combines themes of religion and food in relation to man and his existence.
The first edition was held in October 2023 in the town of Assisi, which everyone considers the symbol of peace, brotherhood and welcome refuge.
The event concentrates on the four great monotheistic religions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, and tries to investigate how their link with food has evolved through the course of history and how this has inevitably become connected with divinity.
There are varied, well-structured questions to be asked: how have uses, customs, prohibitions and rules been created that condition the daily life of billions of human beings?
Man has developed an extremely profound, visceral relationship with religion that is very similar to his relationship with food. The latter has always been considered of sacred, redeeming value. This is why he thanks his god for the gifts granted to him. However, as with all divine gifts, he must not misuse them.
Excess and waste are condemned, as they disrespect the god and his creation: we must restrict ourselves so that everyone can have their share. Everyone has the right to sit at God’s table and the luckiest have the moral obligation to care for those who are less fortunate, just as God does with human beings.
A convivial moment is, therefore, the perfect time to experiment and share divine generosity every day.
The event is held in the historic town centre in Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, where top chefs prepare dishes using food linked to different cultures and religions: an intercultural dialogue with tastings that talk of global stories and sentiments.
There is also street food and show cooking with recipes based on different versions of bread, linked to various religions in the world.
