Devised by the Academy of Ancient Music Resonars, DeMusicAssisi is a festival that brings the musical culture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the masses with concerts, conferences, workshops and tours.
DeMusicAssisi is the first festival of mediaeval music and culture in Umbria.
Its first edition was held in August 2023 and the event offers historic and cultural details of the mediaeval and Renaissance period with a meticulous, musical pathway.
The event originated in an idea – accepted and supported by the Municipality of Assisi – by Resonars, the Academy of Ancient Music, a well-established, cultural organisation in Assisi and benchmark for many musicians who intend to specialise in the study of ancient instruments.
Resonars conducts detailed studies in the various artistic disciplines linked to the Middle Ages, ranging from music, and theatre to historic research.
The festival has a packed calendar of events taking place over five days in mid-August, divided into various genres: concerts, conferences, workshops and tours to discover the town’s musical iconography.
Taking centre stage in the first edition were prestigious international groups, such as the Dramsam Ensemble and the Micrologus Ensemble that has written the history of the interpretation of ancient music.
Also important protagonists were the musicians of Anonima Frottolisti, back from the success of Susanna Nicchiarelli’s film Chiara, presented at the Festival of Cinema in Venice in 2022, for which the group from Assisi had curated the sound-track.
DeMusicAssisi wants to spread knowledge of the musical culture of the Middle Ages and is using Assisi as its starting point, where the spirit of this period reigns undisputed amidst the streets, piazzas and palaces of the town.
