“The city of Assisi, with a grateful heart, is thankful to His Holiness Pope John Paul II for having chosen it six times as the Capital of Dialogue and Peace and for initiating a path of profound spirituality, making Assisi the Altar of the World by the will of the most illustrious Son of the Polish land. Interpreting the feelings of its citizens and the Franciscan community, the city intends to continue the journey of dialogue and brotherhood established with the people of Poland, spiritually close to this city of the world. The two cities commit, in their respective territories, to inform future generations about programs of mutual enhancement in the spiritual, cultural, and tourism spheres, grounded in this bond of faith and love, with the aim of promoting the most universal values of Humanity and Life expressed by the Seraphic city and by Wadowice, where Blessed John Paul II took his first steps to begin a unique and exemplary life journey, in the name of San Francesco d’Assisi, to whom he entrusted his heart “to embrace the events of the people of our time and resolve everything in an evangelical key.”
