The “Museum of the Indians of the Amazon” is located near the Convento dell’immacolata Concezione of the Friars Minor Capuchin. It was opened in 1973 by Father Luciano Matarazzi, thanks to the gifts received by the missionaries who visited Assisi returning from missions in the Amazon. In 2011 the Capuchin Friars of Umbria have decided to transform a traditional missionary museum into a completely multimedia and interactive museum. On different floors there are exposed specimens of flora and fauna of the Amazon, along with ritual masks, costumes and handicrafts made by indigenous nation of Tikunas, which are explained by a combination of technology at the highest level that activates the passage of visitors.
